OVERFLOW WEIR LIQUID DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS

Liquid distribution is an essential component of mass transfer. One way to optimize mass transfer is to ensure even liquid distribution and that is accomplished with overflow weir liquid distribution systems. Overflow weirs (above picture is overhead view) provide several advantages to traditional spray header and nozzle systems. KCH overflow weirs provide superior liquid coverage with 12 drip points per square foot, eliminate clogging nozzle problems, significantly reduce carry over mist problems created by nozzles, are capable of high to low turndown, and reduce energy requirements compared to spray header systems by as much as 1/3. KCH's overflow weir systems are designed and fabricated in house. Each unit is designed for a specific flow rate and turndown capability. Units can be constructed of PVC, CPVC, or PP. Each individual weir trough is capable of being leveled in the field for exact flow control.

OVERFLOW WEIR DISTRIBUTION IN ACTION

To the right is an action photograph of scrubbing liquid overflowing "V" notches on a weir trough down toward the packing. The scrubbing liquid is first fed through a manifold pipe from the pump, then pours into a single distribution box where it exits through a series of side spouts aligned over individual weir troughs. The cascading action fills each weir trough and the liquor pours over the field adjustable "V" notches thus creating the entire overflow weir distribution system custom designed and fabricated by KCH Services, Inc. for your scrubber.
